I am Lisa Clements, the current Nursing and MedicalT eam Leader who started the journey into Primary Health and more importantly Refugee Health, when I commenced work at Companion House, in Canberra, 4 years ago. I was working in Maternity, as a midwife, at The Canberra Hospital, before that, and was looking for a more Mon to Fri type position.I had actually just completed a grad cert in Child Health Nursing and was going to work for Maternal and Child Health but saw the advertisement for working at Companion House and was intrigued. The rest, as the saying goes, is history. After coming to work at Companion House, I have developed a greater understanding as to the importance of Primary Health as the foundational part of a health care system, and am amazed how that wasn't emphasised in my undergraduate learning. So I saw the need to develop more knowledge and did some study in Primary Healthcare Nursing and also Refugee Health Nursing. I am now embarking on a Masters of Nurse Practitioner in Refugee Health. I aim to be able to offer a better service to the clients when I complete that course ( in a couple of years)
